If you’d told us back in March that we’d be practically living at Brands Hatch by the end of April,
we might’ve laughed it off. But here we are! After what feels like a month of camping out at this
legendary track, PowerDrive Racing rounded off April with the 116 Trophy & Sprint weekend,
hosted by the 750 Motor Club. And what a weekend it was! With our team members Libby and
Cameron diving into new roles and soaking up the buzz of the paddock, it’s safe to say this one
was full of firsts, fast cars, and a few fun surprises.
Libby’s Endurance Debut
For Libby, this weekend was all about new experiences. Working for the first time with the
Forty40 team, she was thrown straight into the deep end, helping to prep and maintain cars #40
and #41. While she’s no stranger to getting her hands dirty, working on arrive-and-drive cars in
an endurance race brought a whole new set of challenges—and she sure made an impression.
The quick turnaround during rapid pit stops was a real trial by fire, and Libby found herself
learning on the job alongside some seriously experienced mechanics. There’s something
special about getting stuck in with a new team, and before she knew it, Libby was already
feeling attached to the cars she was wrenching on. She might have gone in as the rookie, but by
the end of the weekend, she was very much part of the Forty40 family.
Cameron’s Pit Lane Marathon
While Libby was learning the ropes, Cameron was across the paddock working with DTO, a
team running six cars. As a No.1 mechanic, Cameron was in the hot seat, managing one car
while also jumping in to assist wherever needed. With so many cars and such a packed
schedule, it wasn’t long before tensions ran high, and the inevitable mechanical gremlins started
creeping in. But that didn’t faze Cam—he stayed cool under pressure, keeping things ticking
over and showing exactly why he’s a key part of any pit crew.
Falling for the 116s
By the end of the weekend, one thing was crystal clear—both Cameron and Libby had caught
the 116 bug. Between the door-to-door racing and the energy in the paddock, they agreed that
this is definitely a championship they’d love to focus on going forward. The camaraderie and
support from other teams were top-notch, showing just how welcoming the club racing scene
can be. There’s something special about the grassroots spirit of these events, and it’s easy to
see why everyone’s hooked.
What really stood out this weekend was the sense of community in the paddock. Despite the
high stakes and intense competition, teams were quick to lend a hand, share advice, and
celebrate each other’s wins. It’s moments like these that remind us why we all love club racing—
the passion, the people, and the shared love for motorsport.
Looking Ahead
April might have felt like one long Brands Hatch staycation, but we wouldn’t have it any other
way. With new skills gained, friendships made, and the 116 Trophy firmly on our radar, we’re
already looking forward to what the next round brings. For now, we’re packing away the tents,
catching up on sleep, and gearing up for whatever the summer season throws at us.
